Radia tapes: CBI files PE to verify allegations

The CBI on Tuesday lodged a Preliminary Enquiry (PE) against a senior Income Tax department official to verify allegations that he attempted to fix his posting to Delhi by bribing an official in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

The CBI on Tuesday lodged a Preliminary Enquiry (PE) against a senior Income Tax department official to verify allegations that he attempted to fix his posting to Delhi by bribing an official in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

The PE was lodged by the CBI on examination of the taped conversations of lobbyist Niira Radia as per a SC order. Since last Tuesday, the CBI has lodged 13 PEs on the basis of its examination of the tapes.

"The PE has been lodged against a senior Income Tax official and touts or middlemen connected with the officer," said a CBI source. The agency has been asked to submit a status report to SC within two months.
