Radiotherapy to cure irregular heart beats

Atrial fibrillation, a heart ailment caused by irregular heartbeats, was prevalent among 10 per cent of senior citizens aged above 80 years.

Modern methods of radio wave therapy would cure ailments caused by irregular heartbeats, Dr Benzy Padanilam, an expert in the field of Electrophysiology said in Chennai on Wednesday.

Speaking on the topic Current Concepts in Atrial Fibrillation, at Frontier Lifeline Hospital of the Dr KM Cherian Heart Foundation, Benzy said that atrial fibrillation, a heart ailment caused by irregular heartbeats, was prevalent among 10 per cent of senior citizens aged above 80 years.

He said atrial fibrillation leads to complications like strokes and disabling symptoms. "Dosages of Warfarin from six months to one year will reduce the risk factor by 60 per cent," he added.
