Potato is the main crop in Farrukhabad and Kannauj. The situation is quite grim for the potato growers because of a bumper crop and the absence of proper marketing facilities.

“A packet of potato wafers made of half a potato is sold for Rs 10, and you get one rupee for a kilo of potato that reaches home for Rs 10,” he said.

“FDI can only script the change for you, bring you what you long for,” Gandhi said to a thunderous applause.

In Kannauj, whose MP is SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, he played the Muslim reservation card.

“The reservation to Muslims is in the hands of the Prime Minister and not Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP chief),” he said, adding “it will be a reality for the community shortly”.
