After his return from a 53-day sabbatical, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will make his first public appearance on Saturday, a day before he addresses a farmers rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground on Sunday.
Rahul will meet groups of farmers at his residence at 11 am. The meeting was earlier scheduled for Friday but was cancelled to enable farmers to reach Delhi from different parts of the country.
“We wanted to give enough time to farmers coming from far and wide for Sunday’s rally,” Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said.
This will be Rahul’s first official engagement after his return from his
. On Friday, he met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, sister Priyanka Gandhi and her husband Robert Vadra.
Congress sources said the idea behind the interaction was to allow the focus to remain on the rally rather than on the party vice-president’s first public appearance.
Rahul will hear the views of the farmers on the changes being brought in the land law.

{{/usCountry}}The groups will include members of various farmer organisations from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Bhatta Parsaul village.
The Kisan-Khet Mazdoor rally is being billed as a show of strength for the party that is struggling to recover following a string of electoral defeats.
