Rahul Bose turns dumb for Tahaan

Rahul Bose is back with Santosh Sivan’s Tahaan, in which he plays the role of Zafar, a dumb and horny person. Namya Sinha tells more.

From the intense Raja Chowdhury in Mr and Mrs Iyer to the whacky Sid wooing Mallika Sherawat in Pyar Ke Side Effects, Rahul Bose is back with Santosh Sivan’s Tahaan, in which he plays the role of Zafar. HT City caught up with the actor at the promotion of the movie.

“I play the role of a Kashmiri peasant who looks after the donkeys and mules owned by Subhan [played by Anupam Kher]. He is also the dumbest person one can ever come across — with a zero IQ,” says the actor.

But there is certain innocence in him that gives him some character. "He is younger in mental maturity than Tahaan [Purav, who plays the role of a kid in the film] and all he can think about is sex with girls. Sivan wanted me to play the role of a very dumb and horny person,” elaborates Bose.

He has always played the central role in the movies he has acted in. Even if it meant playing a negative role in a movie like Takshak where his role was noticed and appreciated by the audiences. Tahaan has something different in store for him. He said, “It is basically a cameo I am playing in the movie and my role lasts not more than 25 minutes. But then this 25 minutes had a lot of substance in it.”

The bachelor interestingly loves working with kids. “Working with Purav, who plays the role of Tahaan was a pleasure. They are very disciplined and in awe of their surroundings. I have worked with kids before and thankfully I have not worked with bratty kids who would just spoil the experience.”
