The Patidar reservation agitation in Gujarat led by Hardik Patel, the Vyapam scam, Lalit Modi controversy, the rice scam in Chhattisgarh, the upcoming Bihar elections and the Jammu and Kashmir floods were some of the major issues that came up for discussion at Monday’s meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Congress legislature party (CLP) leaders.

The interaction had CLP leaders from across India discuss issues ranging from corruption, land acquisition bill, central schemes and matters pertaining to their respective states. Rahul asked them to aggressively raise issues and ensure people were made aware of the lacunae in governance in their states.

The deliberations came ahead of Tuesday’s Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting that is expected to extend the term of party president Sonia Gandhi and ratify the decision to postpone the organisational elections by a year. It will then be communicated to the election commission.

The polls have been delayed as Rahul is keen to hold internal elections across all the rungs of the party. The party also had to extend its nationwide membership drive four times since it was launched on October 16 last year.

The Congress is also planning a rally in Delhi or Haryana on September 20 to celebrate the “victory of farmers” in forcing the Modi government to “backtrack” on the controversial acquisition land bill.

Accordingly, Rahul has advanced the launch of his Bihar campaign from Champaran by a day and the rally will now be held on September 19.
