Referring to BJP prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani’s (81) allegations that Singh is a weak Prime Minister, Rahul reminded the audience that Advani was the home minister at the time of Kandahar hijack episode when the BJP-led NDA government agreed to release three terrorists for safe release of hostages.

“If the home minister of the country was not aware of the release of foreign terrorists’ from Indian jail, then what sort of government was he (Advani) running? These terrorists were later involved in the attack on Parliament,” said Rahul.
He also slammed BJP’s India Shinning campaign during the 2004 Lok Sabha election.

Playing the development card, Rahul said the country would make faster progress if there is all-round development of the poor people. He said the UPA government had fulfilled its promise of being a government for the poor, the common man, dalits and tribals.

“We passed a legislation that guarantees employment to the rural poor. National Rural Employment Guarantee Act is the world's largest employment programme,” the Congress leader said.
