Talks between the Haryana government and leaders of the Jat agitation on Tuesday failed to break the impasse over the current Jat agitation at Mayyar in Hisar. With the protestors squatting on railway tracks, rail traffic crossing through Hisar and Bhiwani remained disrupted for the third day.
While the Jat leaders said the talks with government failed again on Tuesday, PWD Minister Randeep Surjewala who met the leaders of the protestors said the talks remained inconclusive and shall be resumed again. The two sides met at Hisar aerodrome on Tuesday.
Supporters of All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) who are spearheading the agitation are demanding the release of around 150 persons who have been charged for arson and looting during a similar agitation in 2010. They are also seeking reservation under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category in government jobs besides status of martyr to one Sunil Sheoran who was allegedly killed in police firing in 2010 stir for quota. The AIJASS are planning to intensify their protest to the other parts of Haryana and Punjab.
“We are protesting for the withdrawal of police cases against about 150 persons charged for the false cases of violence in the 2010 and reservation in government jobs for Jats under the OBC quota besides that the martyr status for Sunil Sheoran, who had died in the police firing at Hisar district’s Mayar village during the quota stir along with the allotment of land to install his memorial statuette,” told state president of AIJASS Dharampal Dhariwal, who is leading the agitation.

{{/usCountry}}“To decide further strategy a meeting of various Khaps - Nain, Punia, Malik, Jaran and Bisnoda will be held on Wednesday,” he added. Meanwhile Senior superintendent of Railways, Bhiwani RP Kaushik said they had to cancel eight passenger trains and Gorakh Dham Express between Bhiwani and Hisar along with the Delhi-Bhatinda Express and Delhi-Sirsa express due to the ongoing stir.
Jat leader Ram Bhagat Malik said that a 21-member committee shall hold meeting tomorrow and decide the further course of action but in the meanwhile we shall not block any rail or road traffic. Our stir would continue peacefully.
