Hundreds of activists put up the blockade at Daltongunj railway station demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, Rs 10 lakh compensation and a government job to the victim's family member.

Railway sources said the rail services were badly hit due to the blockade.

Police had to forcibly disperse the squatters and cleared the tracks after three hours.

Agarwal, on his way back to Daltongunj from Ramgarh alongwith his family by UP Palamu express, had an altercation with railway police personnel over vacating seat in the general compartment.

He was badly beaten up by the railway police personnel and rushed to Sadar hospital in Medninagar where he succumbed to his injuries the next day, the police said.

The district administration had ordered a probe by a magistrate in this regard, Dy. SP Ashwini Kumar Sinha said.
