The hosts began their chase on a bleak note when opener Faiz Fazal (5) departed in the first over. Siddharth Trivedi, who scored a half-century, was spot-on with the ball as well and sent back Sanjay Bangar to double his haul.

Yere Goud was the sole batsman to show some resistance as wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. He struck five classic boundaries in a patient 197 ball 50.

The Railways batsmen were as uncomfortable with spin as they were against pace.

The hosts now face an uphill task, especially after Fazal departed early again in the second innings on a personal score of 5.

Brief Scores: Gujarat 1st innings: 379. Railways 1st innings: 221 all out (Y Goud 50 not out; S Yadav 3/38). 2nd innings f/o: 54/1.
