The impressive turnaround in the Indian Railways came in for special mention from President Pratibha Patil as she addressed Parliament on Monday.

"My Government has achieved a major turnaround in the financial and technical performance of the Indian Railways," Patil said addressing the Joint Sitting of Parliament on the opening day of the Budget Session.

She said to further improve rail connectivity and infrastructure development, 22 stations located at metropolitan centres and major tourist centres will be developed through public-private partnership.
Noting that the proposed Mumbai-Delhi-Kolkata Dedicated Freight Corridor will be a landmark in railway infrastructure, she said it will support massive industrialisation alongside.
