THE HEAT-HARRIED citizens of the district on Tuesday heaved a sigh of relief when a strong wind accompanied with moderate rainfall brought down the mercury.

The strong wind uprooted trees at many places and disrupted the power supply to different parts of the city.
The people, who faced water logging, welcomes the one-hour rain, after days of heat and humidity.
The rain also exposed the Gorakhpur Nagar Nigam (GNN’s) much-hyped drain clean-up drive following water logging at Narmal Taxi stand, Reti Crossing and Buxipur.
According to sources, 5 mm rain was recorded but the Met office did not confirm it.
Earlier, the pre-monsoon shower hit the district on June 6 and 7, causing water logging in different areas June 6 and 7. After the rainfall, the dry spell continued for two weeks and the temperature rose to above 40-degree Celsius. According to reports, maximum temperature was recorded at 38.7 degrees Celsius yesterday.
