The 27-year-old fast bowler, keen to prove his fitness ahead of this summer's series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, has not played since being ruled out of England's tour of India because of a knee injury.

He had been named in the Glamorgan team to face a Cardiff college side in a three-day match.

Despite the rain on Wednesday, Jones said he will be easing his way back into the action.

"It was frustrating not to be able to get out there today but the weather is always a bit unreliable at this time of the year," he said.

"I'm not going to bust a gut in these early games. I'm going to ease my way back in at three-quarter pace and let the odd one go.

"It was a kick in the teeth, one injury after another, and it was hard to grasp. I worked hard to get back from the ankle injury and then I twisted the knee in a foot hole.

"I just hope this streak comes to an end because I need a bit of luck."

Jones will come back into the frame if he proves his fitness and starts producing the form which helped him bag 18 Australian wickets in four Tests at an average of 21 in last year's epic Ashes series.
