Conditions are favourable for the advance of the southwest monsoon into Konkan in the next two-three days, IMD officials said.

The monsoon has advanced into Goa on Wednesday, they said adding there had not been much rains in Kerala and coastal Karnataka. However, the rainfall activity is expected to go up.

"This kind of increase and decrease in rainfall activity occurs in a season. It is part of the natural variability," they said.

Interior Karnataka and Maharashtra had received some pre-monsoon showers. The monsoon is yet to cover the entire Karnataka state, they said.

The officials said the monsoon last year was bad due to which water reservoirs had not been filled up. "We hope that this year monsoon would make up for the deficieny seen last year."
