Rainwater harvesting: Huda chief raps officials

The Huda administrator, Praveen Kumar, pulled up his officials for the slow progress of work on rainwater harvesting projects at 317 sites identified six months ago; HT reports.

The Huda administrator, Praveen Kumar, pulled up his officials for the slow progress of work on rainwater harvesting projects at 317 sites identified six months ago.

The Huda had set January 31, 2013 as the deadline for completing the project. So far the work has started only at 95 locations.

Kumar asked all the six executive engineers to submit an action taken report in the next week.

"The project should be completed by January 31, 2013. The government has sanctioned Rs. 2 crore for the project," said a senior Huda official.

Some of the locations identified include 22 pits in Sector 14, 20 at Sector 15-I, 32 at Sector 15-II, 30 at Sector 17, 11 at Sector 39 and 16 in Sector 32.

As per guidelines, To obtain a completion certificate from the town planning department, the owner has to carry implement rainwater harvesting on plots of 200 square yard and above.

Gurgaon receives an average rainfall of 595 mm with the maximum number of rainfall catchment areas falling under Huda and District Town Planning (DTP) authority areas.
