BHARATIYA JANATA Party (BJP) chief Rajnath Singh wants the Congress-led UPA government to aggressively raise the issue of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) with Pakistan.

“We want the Congress-led UPA government to make it clear to Pakistan that PoK is part of India as resolved by the Indian Parliament”, Rajnath Singh told Hindustan Times in an exclusive interview on Thursday.

esponding to a query as to why there was no perusal of the resolution unanimously passed by the Indian Parliament in 1994 declaring Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as part of India, Singh said, “there was need for raising this demand vigorously and we want the present government to do it.” “I don’t know why the present government has failed in mobilising international opinion for highlighting Pakistan’s export of terrorism into India”, the BJP chief said, adding, “BJP-led NDA government led by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had succeeded in this regard.”

Asked if BJP favoured APJ Abdul Kalam’s re-election as President of Republic of India, Singh said, “Kalam has bestowed dignity to the chair.

If Kalam’s name comes for re-election as President, it will be good news for India”, the BJP chief said. In response to a specific query if BJP was once again going to propose Kalam’s candidature for this august chair, Singh did not say anything.

The BJP chief favoured President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh as early as possible. “The upcoming Assembly elections in this state will in no case be free and fair”, Singh said, adding, “If any party comes up with a resolution demanding President’s Rule in UP, BJP will support that.” Singh as well as many other leaders like former BJP president Dr MM Joshi, Kalraj Mishra, MP, UP BJP chief Kesari Nath Tripathi and dozens of other party leaders were in the town after participating in ‘Shradhhanjali ceremony’ to mark the first death anniversary of late BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, who along with six associates was killed in an attack by some miscreants on November 29, 2005 in Ghazipur.
