Although Babbar did not name Bachchan, his reference about 'my colleague in the film industry and the person with whom Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh likes to snap photos with' made it clear who he was alluding to.

"That person was an MP then but had to quit politics later," Babbar told reporters in Mumbai.

He said the event in question was 'Hope 86' concert, which he had organised to highlight the "injustice and problems suffered by film industry workers".

"This person then tried to suppress that agitation", Babbar said.

Asked if the association of Amitabh and his wife Jaya with the Samajwadi Party through Amar Singh had helped the party, Babbar said, "it may have helped a person but not the socialist ideology".
