Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray on Wednesday accused NCP chief Sharad Pawar of engineering the split between the Shiv Sena and BJP in Maharashtra.
“If the elections throw up a fractured mandate, Pawar will want a share in the government pie and align with a party of any political hue,” he said.
Thackeray, who is touring Vidarbha since Tuesday, addressed a few meetings on Wednesday, including one at Nagpur, and criticised Pawar for his alleged double standards.
“Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur — which were once termed as beautiful cities — have now turned ugly,” Raj said.
“The leaders who reap the benefits of power have no time to focus on pro-people initiatives. Instead, they are involved in grabbing land. They are not just taking 100 or 200 acre land, but thousands of acres and defacing and exploiting the state’s natural wealth,” he said, in a reference to the Lavasa township being developed by private parties.
Raj said the Congress-led government had been in power for the past 15 years only because the Opposition was grossly ineffective.
“Both, the ruling as well as the Opposition are responsible for the state’s pitiable condition. Give me the power, I will show you what development is. We are the first party in the state to come out with a blueprint of development,” he said, adding that if he failed to fulfil his promise to the people, he would quit politics.

Once again resorting to the ‘outsider’ card, Raj said, “Once the MNS comes to power in the state, my government will keep a watch on every migrant,” he said.
