The Muslim community, which accounts for 13% of the state's population, is likely to influence the outcome in at least nine of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan.

These constituencies are: Barmer, Nagaur, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur, Alwar, Dungarpur-Banswara and Jaipur (city).

Members of the minority community are likely to opt for tactical voting to combat BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

But, the community is also disillusioned with the Congress. This was clear in the 2013 assembly polls, when all 16 Muslim candidates fielded by the party lost.

This time too, the party saw protests by its own leaders and other Muslim groups over the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur ticket given to Mohammad Azharuddin, considered an outsider.

The BJP has no candidate from the state. Muslim leaders say the community will opt for alternatives and where none are available, they might vote for the Congress.

The community organisations have expressed their unhappiness with the Congress, saying the party only used them as a vote-bank.
