Well-decorated shops with colourful rakhis are a common site. Along with the usual rachis, this year most sellers have come up with latest designs to lure customers.

Ranging from a simple silken thread, the designs vary. There are special cartoon character rakhis, and there are also huge varieties studded with semi-precious gemstones, silver, sandalwood, among others.

“If we do not bring variety than people won't buy much. They are always looking for good items to surprise their brothers. We are here to fulfil their demand,” said Chandev, a vendor at Sector 14 market.

“The rate of a simple thread is Rs 20, and a semi-precious stone studded rakhi goes upto Rs 300. The price of silver and gold rachis depends on the weight of the material” said Chandev.

Manisha Narula, a resident of Jalvayu Towers, said her brother live in a different city. “But we make sure that we meet during this occasion. I have thoroughly checked many shops to find an exclusive rakhi for him,” she added.
