Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh on Wednesday urged PM Manmohan Singh to consider raising the entitlement of food grains under the proposed national food security bill.

In a letter to the PM, Singh said the entitlement should be 35 kg per household each month instead of the recommended 5 kg per capita (per person) per month.

He said the per capita yardstick would hurt small-sized poor families less than five members and fail to ensure food security in a meaningful way.
Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country to legislate a food security law - Chhattisgarh Food Security Act, 2012.
