Raman Singh

Born on October 15, 1952 Raman Singh has a degree in Ayurvedic medicine (BAMS). He is presently the president of the Chattisgarh unit of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and its best known face in the state, that is ridden by factionalism.

Singh, was elected to Madhya Pradesh assembly for the first time during 1990 and was re-elected between 1993 and 1998. He was a secretary of Madhya Pradesh BJP. He was elected to Parliament from Rajnandgaon constituency in 1998 Lok Sabha elections and was later inducted as a union minister of state for Commerce and Industry.

After the formation of a separate Chhattisgarh state and factionalism in the state BJP unit the party decided to entrust him with the charge of the party in the state, keeping an eye on the forthcoming Assembly and general elections.

As an MLA, Raman Singh had also been a member of the Public Accounts Committee of Madhya Pradesh.
