RANA’S WEDDING

A romantic drama set just before the Israeli army moved into Palestinian territories. Rana, a young Palestinian woman, sneaks out of her father’s house at daybreak to find her true love, Khalil.
Her father intends to take her to Egypt that day, to separate her from this man, and choose instead a husband from the list of men proposed by him. She wants to stay in East Jerusalem with her boy friend and now has only 10 hours to find him in the chaotic and occupied city, to make preparations for her wedding and confront her father with a fait accompli.
We follow her as she wanders through the city, and get a sense of her fears and doubts in this bizarre war-like situation and in her attempts to get married that very day.

Director's bio-note:
Hany Abu-Assad worked an aeronautical engineer in the Netherlands before entering the world of cinema as a producer. He wrote and directed his first short film, the award-winning Paper House, in 1992. Curfew, a film he produced, received high critical acclaim, while Nazareth 2000 was a documentary on the turmoil in a divided city and on its quarrelling inhabitants. Rana’s Wedding was made with the support of the Palestinian Film Foundation of the Ministry of Culture of the Palestinian National Authority.
