The newest cricket venue in Sri Lanka, famous for being built in just 167 days, the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium was inaugurated on March 23, 2001.
This venue was later starved of international cricket after complications with the lease of the 60-acre site from Rangiri Dambulla Temple and the contractors.
International cricket finally returned in May 2003, the venue staging all seven matches of the tournament because of monsoon rains in the south.
The 30,000 seater stadium is built on a World Heritage listed area in the middle of a jungle and floodlights were installed earlier this year.
The pitch is bowler friendly — for the seamers in the morning and can crumble in the afternoon for the spinners to take advantage of.
