A man, who was absconding after allegedly raping a minor, consumed poison in Chalun Anni on Tuesday.
According to police sources, the accused's father Amar Chand had reported that his son had tried to commit suicide by consuming a poisonous substance. The accused, identified as Hemant Kumar, alias Golu, 23, was admitted to the civil hospital at Anni, but later referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, after his condition deteriorated. The accused was later declared out of danger.
The medical officer of Anni hospital said the MLC examination had confirmed that Kumar had consumed poison.
Kumar had kidnapped a minor girl from Naldera village on Thursday. The police had found the girl on Sunday, but the accused had fled.
Deputy superintendent of police Parveer Thakur said medical examination of the victim had confirmed rape.
A case has now been registered under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (POCSO) against the accused, who had earlier been booked under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366A (procreation of minor girl) of IPC.
