Police have registered a case against the woman and her mother under sections 309 (attempt to commit suicide) and 114 (abetting to attempt suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The woman was rushed to the Jhajjar civil hospital, from where she was referred to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here.

The woman belonged to Bahadurgarh town of Jhajjar district and had come to the Jhajjar court with her mother on Monday for evidence in rape case.

Notably, the woman had lodged a complaint against one Neeraj Kumar, a resident of Bahadurgarh, in 2011.

The case was lying pending in the Jhajjar court for the past one year. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Naresh Kumar, who was on duty with the woman, told police that a fight had broken out between the rape accused and the victim when both met in the court complex.

Thereafter, the police had asked them to reach the police station to record their statements regarding the fight. The woman, along with her mother, was on her way to the station when her mother allegedly gave her a bottle containing poisonous substance and the woman allegedly gulped it down.
