Rapid response teams constituted to check dengue outbreak

The minister of state for health, Shabir Ahmad Khan, on Tuesday informed the legislative assembly that several dengue cases were being reported in Jammu division mostly from Jammu and Samba districts and that to contain the spread of the virus, the department has constituted rapid response teams at the district and divisional level.

The minister of state for health, Shabir Ahmad Khan, on Tuesday informed the legislative assembly that several dengue cases were being reported in Jammu division mostly from Jammu and Samba districts and that to contain the spread of the virus, the department has constituted rapid response teams at the district and divisional level.

He said that as per the report submitted by the director health services, Jammu, on Monday, 364 positive cases of dengue have been reported in Jammu division. As many as 115 cases have been reported in Jammu, 225 in Samba, six in Kathua, three in Rajouri, one in Reasi and 14 others, whose address is yet to be ascertained, the minister said, adding that since the outbreak, three deaths, one in Jammu and two in Samba, have occurred.

The minister said that since the number of cases in Jammu and Samba districts are showing an increasing trend, area specific initiatives and strategies have been devised to contain the outbreak, reduce mortality and morbidity.

He said the department has constituted rapid response teams at the district and divisional level. In Jammu city three teams have been constituted, he added. These teams would spray insecticides during the daytime and conduct fogging in the evening, he further said.

The minister said that samples are being collected in designated hospitals, transported by the department which are being tested in tertiary-level laboratories. Additional facility of 40 beds is being created in Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, shortly to take care of increased influx of patients, he added.
