THE COURT of the district & sessions judge Renu Sharma on Friday sentenced to life one Parnu alias Daddu, aged about 66 years, for raping an eight-year-old girl. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused.
According to prosecution, Parnu, a resident of Amravati in Maharashtra, who worked as a watchman in an area in Bagh Sevania, used to look after the eight-year-old daughter of Prahlad during in his absence from home.
On February 13, Prahlad found his daughter ill and when he asked about her illness, she revealed that Parnu had raped her.
Prahlad later lodged a complaint with the police and a case was registered against the accused under Section 376 of the IPC.
The judge in her verdict observed that the court is supposed to be sensitive towards the accused but rape with a girl is a crime not only against the victim but the entire society. It affects the psyche of not only the victim but also the society at large. Therefore, it would be appropriate to award life sentence to the accused.
