In an unusual development, a person who was arrested for allegedly raping a deaf and dumb girl today signed an agreement expressing his willingness to marry the victim.
The accused Dilip Vaghela, who is at present in judicial custody, signed an agremeent after getting the due consent of the victim and her relatives outside the court, said K N Thakur, an advocate handling the case.
Last month the victim's mother, Mala Rajput filed a plea before a local court hearing the rape case and praying the court to insist the accused to marry the victim.
Thakur said the agreement reached between the two parties will also be presented before the court in the coming days.
The physically challenged victim was last year allegedly raped by Dilip and another co-accused Vinod alias Ladu in Meghaninagar locality.
The girl could not explain the matter to her mother about the incident and when the mother came to know of her pregnancy, she allegedly abandoned the girl at a mental asylum in the city.
The doctors of the asylum later reported the pregnancy and the rape to the police authorities who filed a case against the accused and arrested them.
Later, the police conducted DNA test of the accused and ascertained that Dilip was the father of the child born to the rape victim.
