The surgery has been successfully performed for the first time in the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital on two traumatic paraplegic patients. Lecturer at the Orthopaedic Department, Dr DC Srivastava led the doctors' team which conducted the surgery.

Addressing the mediapersons on Friday, Dr DC Srivastava said this technique is available at only two or three centres in UP. The technique is very effective as there are less complications and the patient's recovery is fast. It is also a boon for those traumatic paraplegia patients who have slightest chances of recovery.

"The surgery with the moss-miami technique was conducted on Ram Murat (Bed 36) and Mohd Sarif (Bed 42). Their both legs were paralysed due to injury in the spine and were almost bed-ridden. But after the surgery they have recovered very fast and may be discharged within 15 days. The cost of surgery came around Rs 25,000 to 30,000.

The doctors' team included Dr Shashi Kant, Dr Dileep, Dr Narendra, Dr Santosh, Dr Manoj, Dr Deepak, Dr Tarun and Dr Piyush," he informed.

"The moss-miami technique was also used for operating congenital scoliosis for the first time in UP. The surgery was conducted last year," he said.

Dr Srivastava said the department is using advance technique for the total hip replacement surgery, canal stenosis and treatment of degenerative disc diseases.
