The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) superintendent of police (SP) Anita Malviya on Tuesday started probe into Ravi Dangi's death. Sources said that Malviya met the family members of Dangi and recorded their statements. She also went to the spot and asked for documents and records from Rajendra Nagar police.
Talking to HT Malviya said, "Today I met the family members of the victim and talked to them. I asked for the records related to the case from the local police. The statement of the related police officials and 108 Ambulance official will also be taken."
A week back, the MPHRC had announced that they would conduct an inquiry into Dangi's death. The panel had taken cognizance of the matter and sought a detailed report from the director general of police (DGP). However, the MPHRC officials said that the report contains discrepancies.
Dangi was stabbed on August 21 and was taken to the Rajendra Nagar police station by his family. Even though he was bleeding, the staff at the Rajendra Nagar police station wasted precious time in lodging an FIR of the case. By the time he was taken to the hospital, Dangi died.
"He was stabbed just 400 metres away from the police station, but was taken to hospital for treatment after an hour," said Nanu, Ravi Dangi's younger brother, in his statement to the media. Nanu said that he kept on screaming in front of the police station along with the other stabbed teenager, Ankit, but no one came forward to help them. Police had ordered an enquiry and later given a clean chit to the Rajendra Nagar police.
