Delhi University applicants from the Haryana, Manipur and Madhya Pradesh state boards protested at several colleges on Wednesday, claiming they had been denied admission for want of original marksheets, which are yet to be issued.
Harried students thronged the colleges and waited — in vain — for a response from the authorities.
“We have been told by the colleges that we cannot gain admission unless we furnish a proof of marks. We have been running from one official to another. We are particularly worried because there is just a day to go before the first round of admissions are closed,” said Tarun Grover, an applicant.
Principals of the colleges, however, said they had written to DU’s dean of student welfare (DSW) office seeking clarity on the issue.
“I have written to the DSW and sought permission to take in these students provisionally without any marksheets,” said Bhimsen Singh, principal, Kirori Mal College. But Singh stressed the need to be cautious. “As a college we need to be careful too. Till instructions from the DSW, we cannot admit these students.”
But DU officials maintain that the colleges can give provisional admissions to these applicants.

{{/usCountry}}“The letter to the principals states that they can provisionally admit these applicants, the condition being that they have to submit marksheets once the boards issue them. In the meantime, the colleges can verify the authenticity of the marksheets on the board websites,” said a senior DU official.
Aspirants and their family members demonstrated at Ramjas College, among other DU institutes, protesting alleged mismanagement during the submission of forms.
