THE UTTAR Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) has decided to introduce re-evaluation in cases where examinees were not satisfied with the marks given to them. According to the Vice-Chancellor Durg Singh Chauhan, only those students would be entitled to a re-evaluation who got less than 30 marks in a subject.
Besides, in order to ensure quality education, the university has proposed to appoint retired teachers as observers.
These observers would have the rights to inspect colleges assigned to them to ascertain that that the education being imparted to students was according to university norms. They would inspect attendance registers, project work of students and make an overall assessment of the academic environment of colleges and would submit a detailed monthly report to the University.
Professor Chauhan told Hindustan Times that the university has collected Rs 100 from each student to create a ‘Student Provident Fund’.
The fund has been created with the amount received from over one lakh students of engineering colleges affiliated to the UPTU. On the same pattern, a teachers’ fund would be created by deducting Rs 150 to 250 from the remuneration given to teachers for evaluation work.
He further said that university entrance examinations would begin from May 15 and the results would be announced by July 5. Soon after the results were announced, counseling sessions would begin. This time only students who received at least 50 per cent marks would be called for counseling. He said seats in almost all disciplines had been increased to accommodate maximum students.

{{/usCountry}}He said special arrangements had been made to check pilferage of question papers. Question papers would be sent to examination centers just 45 minutes before the start of the examination and would be opened in the presence of the observers.
