For 37-year-old tarot card reader Nandini Hatemane, spirituality is a way of life. But that doesn’t mean she has given up on non-vegetarian food.

How I got into it

“I started doing tarot professionally after I turned 30,” she said. After being in the media business for most of her life, Hatemane’s brush with tarot was when her friend, a bookstore owner, gave her two tarot sets at “a good rate”.

Her first reading was for her mother. “When what I told my mother worked out, she became my greatest advertiser. Relatives, friends and strangers were thrust in front of me and I was asked to read their cards,” Hatemane said.

How it feels to be different

“I feel great to be helping others. Healing gives me a high and satiates my childhood desire of being a doctor,” she said.

The most difficult thing

Sometimes, it’s difficult to disconnect with clients. “I keep my own timings so that helps. But it is mentally exhausting to keep reading other people’s lives,” Hatemane said. “Since it is not a 9-5 job, I can steal away time and do my own thing. I don’t miss the regular work environment. And the pay helps.” Hatemane added.

My family is very supportive.
