Realise your mistakes

As human beings, we are fallible. Mistakes if not corrected at proper time can be fatal. Parents have a responsibility to make their children realise their mistakes, not in an offensive but in an innovative and friendly manner.

As human beings, we are fallible. Mistakes if not corrected at proper time can be fatal. Parents have a responsibility to make their children realise their mistakes, not in an offensive but in an innovative and friendly manner. In a mail I got, there was a simple story with a very strong message. It reads like this:

A mother gave her daughter a newly opened saving pass-book on her marriage day with a deposit of Rs 1000. This is a precious gift to you. Each time both you and your husband share something good, just deposit a small amount of money in it and write the ‘good’ thing in the passbook, the mother told her daughter. The daughter shared it with her husband and both thought it was a great idea.

So, each time they shared a happy occasion, they deposited a small amount. Her first promotion, her pregnancy, his birthday, their first vacation trip abroad — all added up to their saving. This continued till their relationship soured. The deposits also nose-dived.

The daughter went to her mother and told her about her decision to separate from her husband. The mother advised the daughter that if she had finally decided to separate, then she should go ahead with her plans, but before that she should spend all the money that she and her husband had deposited to celebrate some happy moments together.

Memories of the past filled in and she started crying. She returned home and gave the pass-book to her husband. He gave it back to her the next day with a new deposit of Rs 5,000 and a note —“ For realising how much we love each other.” Their marriage was saved.
