THE LUCKNOW Bench of the High Court here on Monday, called upon the 40 former BSP (rebel) legislators, to file their response within two weeks, fixing May 2, as the date for the next hearing.

The Bench comprising Justice Jagdish Bhalla and Justice MA Khan passed the above orders on the writ petition filed earlier by a BSP legislator Swami Prasad Maurya, for disqualifying them (40 MLAs) under the Anti-Defection law.
Maurya had challenged the validity of September 6 and 8, 2003 order of then Speaker Kesri Nath Tripathi, recognising the splinter group and permitting merger with the Samajwadi Party. Senior Advocate SC Misra appeared on behalf of the petitioner, while the Assembly Speaker, was represented by the advocate general Virendra Bhatia.
Oudh Bar resolution
The Oudh Bar Association of the High Court in an urgent meeting held under the chairmanship of president Ashok Nigam, here on Monday, resolved to start the process of enrolment of new members to the Bar immediately and authorised the joint secretaries to place ballot boxes for voting accordingly.
It was also unanimously resolved that the process of inviting objections /proposals of amendment to the existing provisions of the century old, Oudh Bar Constitution should be started forthwith so that the draft, containing proposals for amendment, may be completed and placed before the special general body meeting of the Oudh Bar before May 15.

THE HEARING on the writ petition filed by former chief secretary Akhand Pratap Singh, for quashing the FIR of having disproportionate assets against him, remained inconclusive on Monday. The hearing will resume on April 20.
Earlier, the Bench comprising Justice Bhanwar Singh and Justice YR Tripathi heard arguments of senior advocate, Apex Court Rakesh Dwivedi on behalf of the petitioner. The counsel urged that no case of having disproportionate assets than the known sources of his (APS) income was made out against his client.
