Recharge smart tag on the go

Your smart tag for the Gurgaon Expressway toll plaza needs a recharge? Stop by the shelter right in the middle of the expressway — about 100 meters from the toll plaza — and drop your inactive tag there. You will be able to collect your recharged tag on your way back, reports Sanjeev K. Ahuja.

The Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway toll management firm started the on-road recharge system to ease the traffic chaos at the tollgates and encourage expressway users to get smart tags in their vehicles.

At present, about 80,000 motorists — out of a total number of 2 lakh — use smart tags on the expressway.

“There is significant number of tag users who have negative balance in their tags as they have not recharged their devices. Such users continue to use tag lanes and pay by cash creating hindrances for others,” said Manoj Aggarwal, CEO, Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity, the company operating and maintaining the expressway.

The on-road recharge system was started on Wednesday.

On the first day, 486 motorists dropped their tags here for recharge. This system will be in place for this month. The long-term plan is to have automatic system of recharge on tag lanes during lean hours.

On Wednesday, when he halted at the canopy, he said: “I was not aware of the online options of recharging tags and did not want to park the car along the expressway and stand in the long queues at the toll plaza office for this.”
