The UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) today gave this information to the Energy Task Force at its meeting presided over by chief secretary Naveen Chand Bajpai. The work on the project will begin after it’s placed at the next Cabinet meeting. The UP Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) has already approved the revised power purchase agreement to be signed between the REL and the government/Utpadan Nigam.

The REL will set up two thermal units of 300 mw each at Roza at the cost of Rs 2641 crore and will make electricity available to the UPPCL at the rate of Rs 2.69 per unit, sources said. As per the PPA, the company will have to complete the project within 44 months.

UPERC chairman Vijoy Kumar said Kumar Mangalam Birla has already sought all necessary clearances for the project pending for last many years. Now, REL would not be required to seek clearances afresh. Sources said setting up a project at Roza would be a face-saver for the REL which is drawing much criticism for its failure to set up the much touted gas-based power project at Dadri.
