20 years after the massacre, Sikhs are still seeking justice. On the 20th anniversary of the anti-Sikh riots on October 31 silent rallies were organised by by Sikhs in New Delhi, Chandigarh and other parts of the country demanding justice and action against rioters who killed about 2000 members of the community.
The nationwide anti-Sikh riots sparked off following the assassination of former Prime Minister Late Indira Gandhi by two Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984 shattered the myth about tolerance in Indian society.
Even as some of the most high profile personalities accused of rioting and massacre of Sikhs in Delhi have been let off by the courts for want of sufficient evidence, the Sikhs, particularly those who lost their kin are still hoping for justice.
