Both stars were nominated in the Best Actress in A Musical or Comedy category for their roles in Chicago.
When Zellweger accepted the award, she had special praise for her co-star, who wept in the audience.
The actress said, "Being around you in your bliss was amazing. You are a goddess and I'm so glad that the world now knows what you can do."
She explains, "I'd come out as a flower and water myself. I'd wear a green stocking suit and a big white feather hat, so I would look like a daisy. It'd get gonged."
