After Radio Tuk-Tuks and battery-run Soleckshaws, Rent-a-Reva is all set to make lives easier for residents.
To be launched in the first week of July, the scheme will let you rent the battery-operated car for Rs 150 per hour or per 20km or you can pay Rs 18,000 for the entire month.
The private initiative is a first-of-its-kind effort in India by automobile major Mahindra, in collaboration with Uthaan, a Gurgaon-based NGO that has already been running 23 Soleckshaws.
"Self Drive Rent-a-Reva somewhat follows the Zipcar concept which is a membership-based car-sharing company in UK that provides automobile reservations to its members billable by the hour or day. This is meant for gated communities where residents can drive this pollution-free car. This scheme offers members an on-demand availability of cars without having to wait for or haggle with a taxi or an autorickshaw," says Sanjay Kaushik, the president of Uthaan.
Kaushik said the organisation will launch the pilot Rent-A-Reva project with two cars from either Sushant Estate or Maple Crescent.
"We may also offer the service to corporates such as Unitech Cyber Park or Hotel Ibis. During the pilot run of 15 days, we took a feedback from users and decided on the subscription and usage charges. We have signed an MoU with Mahindra, the firm that manufactures Reva," he added.
"In a city like Gurgaon that grossly lacks on public transport, we can expect to reach the level of Zipcars that offers a fleet of more than 8,000 vehicles throughout 28 North American states and provinces, as well as in the United Kingdom, and has over 560,000 members called 'Zipsters'," Kaushik said.
