Report in, when will LDA evict illegal residents?

THE DOOR-TO-DOOR survey to identify the illegal occupants in Nehru Enclave is complete but is being kept under wraps by the LDA for obvious reasons. ?The survey is complete but the list compiled by the engineering section is yet to be tallied with the one prepared by the property section,? said LDA Secretary Ram Bilas Yadav. He said that he had convened a meeting in this connection with the officials of Engineering and Property Section on Monday at 3.30 pm.

“The survey is complete but the list compiled by the engineering section is yet to be tallied with the one prepared by the property section,” said LDA Secretary Ram Bilas Yadav. He said that he had convened a meeting in this connection with the officials of Engineering and Property Section on Monday at 3.30 pm.

On Saturday, executive engineer Y K Jain submitted the status report of the total 804 flats in the enclave. According to sources, the survey team was asked to submit its report on four points, namely, the number of LDA allottees, unauthorised occupants, vacant flats under department’s lock and key and such flats which though vacant but were illegally locked. “The survey report would be both an eye-opener as well as a money-spinner for the LDA,” said an official on condition of anonymity.

Eye-opener all right, considering that it is expected to expose the nexus between the influential gatecrashers in the colony and staff of LDA’s property section, but money-spinner? “Forget unauthorized occupants, who as everybody knows have not deposited a dime with the department. Even genuine allottees given possession by the LDA are a major defaulter and owe lakhs,” said the official. The amount they owe to the LDA runs into crores, according to this official.
