Twnety-eight people have died and 12 others were missing after a rescue boat, pressed into flood relief operations, capsized on Wednesday near a village in eastern Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district.

"So far, we have fished out 28 bodies and 45 people have been rescued while the search for more is still on," District Magistrate SP Dixit told PTI over telephone.
The incident happened near Harakpura village on Wednesday morning.
About 85 people were onboard the boat when it, unable bear the load, ruptured from the middle drowning all into the flood waters of Roshin river, Additional Commissioner, Gorakhpur division, RJ Swarnakar told PTI.
The divers and police were searching for the bodies, he added.
