Rescued animals brought to Van Vihar

SEVEN LIONS and a bear, all rescued from a circus in Korba by forest officials, arrived at the Van Vihar National Park?s rescue centre here on Sunday.

SEVEN LIONS and a bear, all rescued from a circus in Korba by forest officials, arrived at the Van Vihar National Park’s rescue centre here on Sunday.

A team of officials from the Van Vihar had rescued these animals from the Rajmahal Circus in Korba four days back. The lions are Amar (16), Akbar (16), Anthony (16), Johny (16), Raja (20), Badal (17) and Ramu (18). The bear is a female named Sagar.

Raja is the eldest among the lions and Amar, Akbar, Anthony are his offsprings. Van Vihar veterinarian Dr Atul Gupta said medical examination of all animals was conducted and that they would be vaccinated. Two of the lions with some injuries were being treated.

With the new arrivals, the number of lions in Van Vihar has gone up to 16. However. Van Vihar authorities said according to rescue centre guidelines, these animals will not be on display for visitors.
