During the last three days, the emergency rostering in the city started at 8.30 pm and the power supply was restored only at 2 am, causing much displeasure among people in view of the festive period of Durga puja and Ramzan.

On the other hand, political interference has further aggravated the problem.

Sahjanwa town is getting 22-hour uninterrupted power supply as a State minister is likely to contest election from the constituency. On his request, Sahjanwa has been exempted from emergency rostering.

While talking to Hindustan Times, GM, Power Corporation, Suresh Kumar said power supply in the city was snapped on the directive of the power control system. He claimed that scheduled rostering in morning hours was reduced but he had no effective role to play as it was alleged to be conducted on the directive of a system where political will interfered with official functioning.

The power cuts had compounded the problems of the people and forced them to pass sleepless night.

Making matters worse, unscheduled power cuts had increased the hardship of the people and hampered normal life.

Water supply in various areas was also affected. Corporator Nabiullah Ansari, BSP leader Dr Ashok Srivastav, Congress leader Diwaker Singh criticised Mulayam Singh Yadav for giving step-motherly treatment to the city in power distribution.
They said Mau, Sahjanwa and other smaller towns were getting uninterrupted power supply while Gorakhpur Municipal area was getting merely 13 to 14 hours power supply.
