RESENTMENT is brewing amongst a section of residents of Phulpur township and family members of Wali Ullah, who was reportedly picked up by the STF last month ostensibly for interrogation for his alleged involvement in terrorist activities. Now, after filing a habeas corpus petition in the HC, his wife and other family members have started demanding a CBI probe into the charges against him.
Interestingly, the STF reportedly showed his arrest near Rai Bareli today more than ten days after they picked him up from near Iffco in Phulpur township.
It may be mentioned that Waliullah, along with his two brothers, were arrested from Phulpur by the local police for their alleged role in sheltering terrorists.
However, the bothers secured bail after about a year and a half ago.
Since then, STF was reported to have been monitoring their activities, especially that of Wali Ullah. The Varanasi blasts followed by some clues prompted the STF to take him in.
There is some doubt over whether Waliullah was taken away by the UP STF or the JK STF, but according to a police officer, it was the J& K STF which had picked up Wali Ullah.
