Reacting to the gherao of the sub-dean of the institute, Medicos Forum for Equal Opportunities has called upon the President to exercise his moral authority and ask the government to stop vacillating on the issue of reservation which has only fuelled upper caste chauvinism.

In a statement, the Forum alleged that doctors and students of reserved category were being discriminated against in the institute and victimised and demanded an end to it.

Forum also said government must fulfil its promise of increasing the number of seats in higher education so that the interests of general category of students were also safeguarded.

It also demanded that the anti-people measure of increasing 'user charges' for patients at the institute must also be withdrawn.
