Residents protest against illegal structure

THE RESIDENTS of the Divinity Compound, St Paul?s Church opposite the fire brigade station in the city are on a warpath. Irked over the land mafia and anti-social elements for upsetting their daily lives, the residents staged a dharna at the collectorate.

THE RESIDENTS of the Divinity Compound, St Paul’s Church opposite the fire brigade station in the city are on a warpath. Irked over the land mafia and anti-social elements for upsetting their daily lives, the residents staged a dharna at the collectorate.

In a memorandum handed over to the district authorities, they drew the authorities’ attention towards an illegal structure constructed by some persons close to the south boundary wall of the Divinity Compound. They alleged those who had allegedly built this structure, did not get the plan approved.

They alleged further these persons made indecent remarks on women and were eyeing as to how they could encroach upon the land by making their way through the broken wall. Residents of the compound were allegedly stopped per force from repairing the boundary wall by these illegal occupants.

Prominent among those who participated in the dharna included Francis Mor, UPCC member and advocate Rehman Ali, William Anil Dhar, member BJP state committee, Sharif Ahmad, retired Lt Col. T. Srivastava, Mayank Joyal, Rajesh Kidar, Rajan Shukla, Michael Govind Tewari, Elizabeth Masih, Preeti Tewari, Hamida Bano and several others.
