Residents say ‘no’ to admin building certification plan

Residents have opposed the new “self-certification” scheme to get the approval for building plans from the department of Town and Country Planning (TCP), which said the step will make the process easier.

Under the new scheme, the applicants need to get their building plans certified from any of the architects included in TCP’s panel in stead of approaching the department officials. The department has also made it mandatory for plot owners to get their plans approved before construction.

“Otherwise, it will be demolished,” TCP's director general TC Gupta said during a meeting with residents' groups here on Tuesday.

However, residents as well as architects have raised objections, saying that the new procedure would lead to several complications.

Members of residents' welfare associations of various colonies raised objections over architects' role.

“It is rubbish. It shows that the planning has been done in haste and without taking residents' view in account,” said one of the members.

“The rule bears several clauses of ambiguities which are bound to emerge as major issues,” said Vivek Logani, an architect. The DG had called the meeting to make people aware of the new norm.
