Resolution of Kashmir issue must for stability: Mirwaiz

Moderate separatist leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq today said resolution of the lingering Kashmir issue was imperative for political stability in the region.

"Unless the Kashmir issue is resolved in accordance with wishes and aspirations of the people, uncertainty will remain," he told Canadian envoys.

Political Advisor in the Canadian embassy Julie Jay Bantali and Economy Advisor Sumitra, on a visit to Kashmir to acquaint themselves with the prevailing situation, met the moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman at his Nigeen residence.

Mirwaiz, flanked by senior Executive Council members of the separatist amalgam, said resolution of the Kashmir issue was a must for political stability in the region.

"There is need for early resolution of the Kashmir issue through peaceful means like composite dialogue," he said.

Any solution should be in accordance with wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir, Mirwaiz told the envoys.

He briefed them on the prevailing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Hurriyat softliner urged the envoys to use their influence with the Centre to ensure protection of human rights in the state.

The envoys on Sunday met JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik.
